In this time together, we will increase awareness of how our body moves -- the articulation of each separate part, the coordination of these parts and the integration of our whole body in movement. We will begin to identify and understand the individual, familial and cultural influences that have affected the ways in which we move and communicate in daily life experience. In this process, we will discover the associations that we have with our bodies, start to reflect on the influences that we have identified and aligned with, and see how they have affected us in our own nonverbal expression and interaction.
Through an increase in body awareness, the imprinting in and on ourselves can be revealed to us and be better understood, leading us to look at how our past experience has informed the ways in which we presently live, move and connect with others in the world. This being said, as helping professionals it is ever important in our quest to serve others to first follow the maxim written over the gates of Delphi, "Know Thyself." By doing so, we can then be more aware of what we bring to our interactions with those whom we serve.
